BioOne Online

The Library has organized a trial subscription to BioOne Online. 

BioOne is a “not for profit organization” which provides an online full text database of 176 high-quality biological, ecological and environmental sciences journals from 131 not-for-profit publishers. Almost half of the current titles are published exclusively by BioOne and 72% of the titles are ranked by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI).

Trial access ends on 30th June 2013. Please send any feedback or comments to fao-library-reference@fao.org.

Financial Times Trial Subscription

The Library has organized a trial subscription to the Financial Times newspaper. The Financial Times is one of the world's leading business news and information organisations. With over 600 journalists around the world,  the FT validates and distills information from hundreds of sources to deliver news and analysis on global business, finance and politics.

This trial will give FAO staff members access to:

  • Comprehensive coverage of the political, economic and social forces shaping world business
  • Up-to-date reports on industry sectors, customers and competition
  • Breaking stories and news from the global financial markets
  • FT special reports
  • FT blogs written by top FT journalists

You have a choice of modes for accessing the newspaper:
FT Standard Electronic Edition
FT ePaper-- an exact digital replica of the printed newspaper
FT iPad/iPhone app

To access the trial: go to www.ft.com

When you click on an article, a popup window will open.  You will be prompted to sign in with your FT username and password, if you already have one, and you will be prompted to create a logon if you don't.

Free access to all Palgrave Macmillan journal content in April 2013

From April 1-30, 2013 Palgrave Macmillan, a global academic and business publisher for the Humanities and Social Sciences, will be offering free online access to their full journals portfolio.

All current and archival content spanning the Humanities, the Social Sciences and Business will be available, including access to the following high-profile journals:

Journal of International Business Studies

Journal of the Operational Research Society

Feminist Review

International Politics

Web of Knowledge Trial Subscription

The library has set up a trial to Web of Knowledge for FAO staff.

Web of Knowledge provides access to the citation analysis tool Web of Science, and interlinked access to other major research databases such as Arts and Humanities Citation Index, CAB Abstracts, Biosis, FSTA, MEDLINE etc. 

Products available under this trial are: Essential Science Indicators, Journal Citation Reports on the Web, Web of Science.

Brief trial access to SA ePublications

David Lubin Memorial Library has procured free access to SA ePublications until 8th of March 2013.

SA ePublications  provides access to over 300 South African academic journals with full text articles in searchable pdf format. The areas covered by the SAePublications are: business & finance, law, medical & health, religion, science, technology & architecture, social sciences &humanities. Access is available to all FAO HQ and Field staff via password.

Access to market research and industry analysis data

The library has a trial subscription to Business Monitor International.

Business Monitor Online is made up of three components:

Country Risk and Forecast:
Combines intra-daily alerts on treasuries and capital markets with comparative risk ratings, macroeconomic analyses and forecasts, and industry profiles compiled by country economists.

Industry and Market Research:
The service covers 24 industry sector, and is used by industry professionals, analysts and strategists for competitive analysis and benchmarking. Each industry service features: 1. daily news and analyses covering major industry and company developments 2. quarterly country surveys with 5-year forecasts for all headline indicators and 3. comprehensive company profiles and competitive intelligence.

Company Research and Intelligence:
Features 120,000 senior executives at 55,000 multinational companies. Includes multinational company profiles and site networks; competitive intelligence covering sales volume, employee size, ownership structure, foreign direct investment and project activity, and analysis of latest company developments.

Springer E-Books

David Lubin Memorial Library has procured free access to Springer E-Books until the 30th of September 2009. Springer provides access to more than 10,000 electronic books on subjects such as: Business and Economics, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Law, Professional and Applied Computing, and more. It is accessible to all the FAO HQ and Field staff via IP recognition.

You can search by keyword or browse by topic or publication type.

EIU City Data

FAO Staff members have access to a trial of the Economist Intelligence Unit- City Data. 

EIU City Data contains price data on more than 160 products and services in 140 cities worldwide from 1990 to the present. It provides an excellent overview of global price levels.

Trial lasts until 18 May, 2008.

Industry forecasts, investment flows, and market figures

The library has received a trial subscription to the following products offered as part of the Economist Intelligence Unit:

World Data combines the economic and industry forecasts of the Economist Intelligence Unit with updates throughout the day from EcoWin. The result is a comprehensive global database of economic and market figures and forecasts on 150 countries and 45 regions.

World Investment Service features a detailed database containing flows of investment by country and industry, overseas mergers and acquisitions and business costs. This service covers the world's 60 largest economies and provides detailed analysis on political and economic background, business environment, foreign investment regulations and trends in foreign investment. It covers 60 countries.

EIU Industry Forecasts provide five-year forecasts for eight key industries, along with relevant background information. Forecasts cover the world's 60 major economies that account for more than 95% of global output and trade. Forecasts are based on the latest data and in-depth analysis of sectoral trends.

International Law in Domestic Courts

Until May 15, 2007, the library has trial access to Oxford University Press' International Law in Domestic Courts.

This is an online law reporting service focusing on the way that courts from countries  around the world deal with matters of international law.  It currently contains 160 cases. Approximately 150 new cases are added each year.
